Bangladeshi Hindus houses were looted in planned way: Probe body

Four more held, victims still worried about security

Police on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning arrested four more accused in the three cases filed for November 2 attack on Hindu houses at Sahapara and Ghoshpara of Bonogram village in Santhia upazila under the district.
A group of youths attacked and looted houses of Hindus in the area after creating sensation by saying that one Rajib Saha maligned Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) in a Facebook page.
“A total of 16 accused have so far been arrested in connection with the incident. Of them one has already made confessional statement,” said Abu Bakar Siddik, assistant superintendent of police in Pabna.
Meanwhile the investigation committee headed by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Munshi Moniruzzaman submitted the probe report to the deputy commissioner of Pabna yesterday.
Criminals and extortionists attacked Hindu families in a planned way to loot the houses, said the probe report that mentioned names of 15/16 criminals and extortionists along with the masterminds of the incident.
The inquiry report recommended arresting all of them and also investigation into the Facebook page by BTRC and CID experts, removing timbers beside the highway to prevent road blockade and remaining cautious about the use of the mikes of mosques, said the probe committee chief.
Of the three cases filed after the incident, the one filed by Babul Saha has been handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of police and the DB has already started investigation, said Pabna Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Miraz Uddin Ahmed.
Amid the tight security of law enforcing agencies, the victims at Bonogram are repairing their houses.
Visiting the residence of Babul Saha at Bonogram yesterday, this correspondent saw two workers repairing his house.
“We have returned as the police are deployed nearby. But what will happen when there is no security?” said Shibani Saha, wife of Babul.
Expressing the same, Haripada Saha of the village said, “We would fell relieved if the criminals are punished.”
SP Miraz Uddin said the security arrangement by the law enforcers will continue as long as there is need and a police camp is going to be set up at Bonogram.
